Lucapa Recovers 171-carat Diamond

(IDEX Online) - Lucapa has recovered the fourth largest diamond since it started mining at Lulo, Angola, five years ago.

The gem-quality white stone weighs 171-carat and is the 15th diamond over 100-carats from the mine.

In February 2016, Lulo yielded an enormous 404.2-carat white diamond, the biggest ever recovered in Angola, and the biggest in the history of Australia-based Lucapa. The "4th February Stone" sold for $16m.

The Lulo open pit, in Angola's eastern Lunda Norte province, is the world's highest dollar per carat alluvial diamond operation, It went live in January 2015.

Managing director Stephen Wetherall said: "The recovery of this 171-carat gem-quality white diamond continues to underpin the potential of the kimberlite exploration programme as drilling of the high-priority kimberlites in the Canguige catchment continues."  ...
